Phone numbers in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. can be acquired directly in turboDial, and the instructions on this page are not needed.
Most countries outside of the U.S., Canada and the U.K. have begun regulating the provision of phone numbers, and the new regulations require you to provide documentation of your identity and address before you can acquire a number. Twilio is now enforcing those regulations and that means the process to acquire a number for use in turboDial is different for countries other than the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
If you need to acquire a number for a country other than the U.S., Canada or the U.K. there are two options:
- If full turboDial functionality is required for the phone number then you must move your turboDial account to operate in your primary Twilio account. Instructions for this option can be found at this page.
- If the acquired number is simply needed for use as an outbound Caller ID number, and inbound calls to the number need simple routing to another phone number, then you can acquire the number in your primary Twilio account console and configure the number using that Twilio console. Instructions for this option can be found at this page.
